Children as Artists

Fly Me To The Moon  -  Space Explorers

Year 1 and 2 have been researching and discussing the wonderful works of Glass Sculpture artist Dale Chihuly and used 3D form to create their own sculptured space rockets. Using clear plastic bottles, expressive colours, simple shapes and pattern, the children have successfully recreated the translucent colours observed in Chihuly's work, by using permanent inks that have been sealed onto the plastic surface. The finished sculptures are simple stunning.

Year 5 and 6 Artists are Out Of This World!

Inspired by Contemporary Artists, Peter Thorpe and Michael Kagan, children in Year 5 and 6 have combined their artistic skills to create a mixed-media final piece that truly are out of this world! They have worked independently to create an acrylic wash background using a complimentary colour palette and applied simple collage and oil pastel techniques to add colour and texture to the various subject matter within their work. Like true artists they have explored, experimented, and annotated their ideas, whilst continuously recording their learning journey in their personal sketchbooks.

The Spirit of the Rainforest!

The artists in Years 3 and 4 have been developing their drawing and painting skills to capture the harmonious colour of the Rainforest! Inspired by British artist John Dyer the children have created some wonderful exploration work in their sketchbooks using tone to add depth and texture to their pencil drawings and colour mixing with oil pastel, paint and felt tip to experiment with effects and techniques. The results of their final piece were fantastic and were created as part of the Big Draw Festival 2020! Here are just some of the amazing examples of the artwork achieved throughout this project!

Press Printing in Reception

The Reception children have explored some simple printing techniques inspired by their theme ‘Once upon a Crime’. They have used polystyrene tiles to trace and transfer their Gingerbread motif and worked with different types of line to add pattern and simple, yet effective detail. The sequence of learning made mathematical links as the children worked with warm and cold colours to create bold repeated patterns.

Year 5 and 6 Weaving inspired by “Arachne”

Year 5 and 6 Anglo Saxon Shields

Self Portraits

The artists in year 1 and 2 have been busy creating mixed-media self portraits. They have created their own backgrounds in the style of Vincent van Gogh and explored a variety of collage, drawing and painting skills to achieve their final piece.

Viking Seascapes

Year 3 and 4 have been getting creative with watercolour and acrylic paint to produce some vibrant seascapes in the style of J.M.W. Turner.

Anglo Saxon Observation Drawings

Artists in Year 5 and 6 have been developing their drawing skills to create some outstanding tonal drawings of Anglo Saxon artefacts. They have worked hard to use tone, line, texture and shape within their drawings effectively.

Pop Art Superhero’s

Reception have been inspired by Andy Warhol and created their own Pop Art Superhero painting. They have talked about what they like and dislike about the artists work and used their colour mixing skills to create their own colour palette using primary colours. Their finished pieces are just amazing!
