Autumn Term 2018
Our theme for this term is still ‘Out of this World’, completely based around the theme of Space, the planets and space travel, linking closely with Science. English and foundation subjects will all be linked to this; this may be listening to ‘The Planets’ by Holst or debating with the opinions of The Flat Earth Society about the true shape of our Earth. We will also be visiting The National Space Centre in Leicester on Friday 9th November
The coverage for this topic can be found below. Our class book we are reading is ‘Skellig’ by David Almond, who will also be our class author. Children are welcome to purchase and bring in their own copy of this book to read during daily Guided Reading sessions.
The Reading Challenge will start afresh, where children will have an opportunity to win a book at the end of the half term if they complete their challenge grid. The children will be finding out what matters most to Christians in RE, learning Spanish and continuing to study the topic of Space in Science, all taught by myself. We thoroughly enjoyed our Tag Rugby lessons at Lacon Childe in Autumn 1 and our busy PE schedule will continue this half term. On Tuesdays, we have Mr Adams from Lacon Childe coming to our school and teaching us netball. For the first three weeks of this half term, Stuart Brooks will also be doing Playground Leader Training with all children to assist and help others at Playtime. After these sessions, pupils will be given the opportunity to volunteer to be a Playground Leader, where they will take part in a playtime duty each week. Finally, we will be having a 'Health Kick' football lesson from Kidderminster Harriers on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school. Ms Randall will running our Numeracy Ninjas Skills test and progression in Maths, as well as computing and music on alternate weeks and an Art/DT lesson in the afternoon, looking at fundamental art skills linked closely with our topic. These subjects will change againafter the Christmas. A breakdown of the timetable for this half term can be found on this webpage.
