Mad about minibeasts
We have had a very exciting time in Reception! Our new topic has begun, and we are "Mad About Minibeasts". We received a letter asking the children to learn all about minibeasts, and to help us with our research we have been sent some stick insect eggs to rear in our own special habitats. We are now eagerly waiting for the eggs to hatch. We began our minibeast learning by writing down everything we already know about them, and we are now using this information to support our further explorations. We have been on a bug hunt in our forest school area to try and uncover any hidden creatures from under logs and leaves, in crevices and holes and in the grass. We were very successful! As a follow on from this we undertook a nature walk around Bayton village where we found some incredible spider webs with some very large spiders living in them! We completed our walk with a bug hunt on the green, using magnifying glasses, bug catchers and our best scientific brains to hunt in all different areas.
We are gathering a wealth of knowledge as our minibeast journey continues and would love for you to check back with us for updates on our stick insects and any further exciting developments.
