Spring Term 2021
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas despite the circumstances.
As you are probably aware, English and Maths SATs are around the corner for Year 6 and we still have a considerable amount of work to catch up on after COVID lockdown home-schooling. Maths Booster will begin as an after school club for all of Year 6 on Mondays until 4:15pm starting next week! This will run until the week before SATs. There will also be an Wednesday morning booster session, please keep an eye out for your invite to this. Year 5 are very lucky because they will watch and learn alongside Year 6, continuing to make progress on their own objectives as well as becoming well prepared for the experiences of Year 6! As always, we will give your child the help and support that they will need in order to make as much academic process as possible through quality first teaching, group intervention and one to one teaching. We appreciate your continued support at home with homework, spellings reading and any extra tasks set. Please do feel free to ask for more if required! As the Executive Headship continues, our class supported by myself with Mrs Childe and Miss Canty every morning as 1:1 support (Mrs Wallace is also in class with us three mornings and two afternoons). Mrs Wallace will cover spellings, Spanish and Reading on Monday and alternate Friday afternoons and Ms Randall will teach the class computing, art, DT and science every Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday. Don’t forget that Reading Diaries will be expected to be in school on a daily basis and will be checked every THURSDAY. Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week. Homework will be handed out on a Tuesday and due in on a FRIDAY in order to give it time to quarantine. Your child may come home with a ‘workbook’ with set pages to look at weekly this term. Please make sure they take good care of this.
The children will be having a Dance instructor every Monday afternoon and Mr Adams on a Wednesday for P.E – children will need to come dressed in their PE kits on these days. In RE, we will be asking ‘Was Jesus the Messiah?’. Our theme work is changing for the Spring Term. This will be called ‘Disaster!’ and will take a Geographical focus based all around the construction of the Earth and the effect this has on Nature. We will study Volcanoes and Earthquakes from around the world and create both fictional and non-fictional writing. We will also link in our Science study, learning about Plants and Life Cycles as well as States of Matter. We hope to showcase all of our learning in a zoom assembly at the end of our topic!
We will be reading the story ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by our new Class Author Michael Morpurgo in Guided Reading. It would be great if children could bring in their own copy of this to keep in their desk and avoiding sharing.
Children MUST NOT bring their own stationery in a pencil case – they were provided with a full pencil case of resources at the beginning of the year to avoid sharing and bringing things in from home. This needs to continue in the Spring term. Please make sure your child has their small bottle of hand santiser topped up too.
Behaviour in our classroom and during lunchtime breaks became an slight issue at the end of Autumn term. Our children need to continue to follow our school motto to ‘be the best they can be’ and show good Christian Values. As they are the oldest children in the school, I expect them to set a good example to all those younger than them in everything that they do.
Don’t forget about this term’s POWer Project. Details can be found on the DISASTER section of the website.
Please feel free to come and see me at any time and discuss any queries you might have
I look forward to an exciting year ahead!
