Writing
WRITING AT BAYTON PRIMARY
Here at Bayton, all of our writing is taught using Progression through Genres by Jane Consodine. This allows for effectively coverage by Year Group including text structure, sentence, useful vocabulary and punctuation.
Genres are organised effectively by Year Group and can be linked to our key theme where applicable; this is not explicit. We teach class writing projects (or writing units) guided by the Writing for Pleasure Centre. This is an opportunity for a whole class to come together and learn more about a type of writing. It’s also where teachers can explicitly teach children about the processes involved in writing
Children are encouraged to use 'Have a Go' Spelling Books as much as possible. Word Aware ‘Word of the Week’ words are recorded in here with a super sentence. All KS2 pupils are asked to complete ‘cold write’ at the beginning of each term and a WAGOLL from the last academic year is displayed in the front of their books as a reminder of their best piece of work as an ongoing high expectations. Each child from Y1 has a target card ‘bookmarks’ in their Writing Books to remind them of their ongoing progression and improvement.
